Detoxify - summer is a good time

Usually in spring time everyone thinks about detoxifying. But I think summer is a perfect time. There are a lot of fresh salads, herbs, greens, veggies and fruit around. The heat will make you love digging into big salads. And that’s one basic of detoxifying: Eating clean salads, accompanied by herbs that help your body get rid of toxins. There is no need to be hungry! Just stick to the right foods and herbs for a while.
Learn more about this program “Detox 3” and be rewarded by a healthier You in 3 weeks.
And have a look at our recipes.
My detoxifying program has been developed with the help of clients (special ‘thank you’ to Judy and Diane!). There are 3 columns: (1) Nutrition, (2) Herbs, and (3) Exercise.

What detoxifying is all about

Contaminants from the environment are attacking our body, constantly. Therefore, we should detoxify and cleanse on a regular basis – natural and gentle.  Detoxifying does not mean changing your diet drastically, and is not abstinence of food, but rather being aware of what you eat, eating the right, healthy food, and using herbs to assist in the process. Proper detoxification has to include the whole body. For that rely on natural herbs in order to assist all parts of your body in obtaining its ability to eliminate waste and toxins. Beyond that, purifying in combination with herbs means fueling your body with new energy.

How to detoxify

In order to help your body in cleansing and purification process, you should focus on the following pathways to eliminate waste and in addition toxins.

Excreting:
Our colon should be cleansed on a regular basis.
The colon absorbs nutrients and discharges most of dietary fiber. The more you are able to excrete body waste, the greater is the chance to get rid of toxic substances as well.
Increasing Urination:
It’s the job of our kidneys to cleanse and purify all liquids that are passing through. Whatever is not valuable to our body is eliminated. Encouraging dehydration leads to a bigger emission of toxic substances.
Perspiration:
Our skin is one of the body’s pathways to eliminate waste and toxins by perspiration (sweating).

Rely on 3 Columns

Detoxifying the natural way has three columns:
  • Nutrition (Foods that are particularly suitable for cleansing and purifying)

  • Herbs (particularly ones acting as aid for cleansing and detoxifying) – including a “Detox Tea”, that is blended to assist the body’s ability to cleanse and purify ,  and

  • Physical Exercise (In order to get your skin to work in the detox process)

Detox Foods & Herbs

During the next weeks I will introduce you to special foods and herbs that help your body getting rid of toxins. So watch out for my next blogs. For today there is the first recipe idea:

Recipe Idea: Big Salad

Having a big salad as your main meal is easy, tasty, and really healthy.
  1. Choose the greens – everything you like – including spinach and baby kale.
  2. Add red leave (chicory, radicchio)
  3. Add all veggies and fruits you like: tomatoes, bell peppers, broccoli, avocado, artichokes, cooked asparagus, strawberries, pineapple, other fruits
  4. Add herbs – fresh herbs like parsley, oregano, tarragon, cilantro
  5. Add seeds. There are seeds you me eat whole (sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, nuts) and seeds you should grind (use a coffee grinder) – like caraway, mustard.
  6. Create your dressing: Use olive oil and red wine vinegar, seasoned with a dash of salt. Add turmeric, ginger, annatto – every flavor you like.
  7. Toss well and enjoy!

Eating a big salad every day is the best thing to do while detoxifying. So make sure to vary the flavors. Tarragon and cilantro are very dominant. Choose either or and not every day.

Recipe 'Zaziki'

This is a very easy recipe - you decide on the quantity of each ingredient.
1. Grate cucumber (without seeds)
2. Chop garlic
3. Combine everything with yogurt
4. Salt to taste
