Living with Herbs
Your morning oats are your very own dish. You only have to consider your very own taste. Try to encourage everyone in your family: Set the table with everything you can imagine they would like to taste. See our suggestion and recipe ideas.
Oats are one of the best foods you can count on. Oats are good for you heart and brain. Oats lower cholesterol, may lower blood pressure and improve attention and concentration. In addition, if you eat old fashioned rolled oats, you get a lot of fiber which helps your guts and lets you stay healthy.
Oats are 'pre-biotics', which means, they feed the good 'probiotic' bacteria in your colon.
Don't like it sweet? Try it savory!
You may add all the herbs and spices you love. Fresh herbs and a pinch of salt go well with oats and yogurt. Or try turmeric, annatto, cayenne and just a teaspoon of honey. Be creative! Try out and decide what you like best. Any addition of herbs and spices will benefit your health!
Start with 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, cover barely with water and let sit for some minutes or - better - overnight. Add yogurt (about 5 tablespoon). Be sure to choose the right yogurt. Read the label: It should say ‘includes life active cultures’ and at least mention Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium – and no artificial additives.
Add herbs and spices you like. Some go with 'sweet' some with 'salty. In our recipe we add turmeric and annatto. Turmeric is good for your colon and should be consumed on a regular basis. Annatto tastes slightly nutty and is good for your liver. Both go well with salt and with some sweetening like 1 spoon of honey. Ginger will do nicely as well. Add nuts and any kind of seasonal fruit.
For a change add freshly chopped parsley and other fresh herbs, even finely chopped onions, and get a lot of vitamins and minerals.
