The leaves were used in medicinal preparations. Due to their high tannin content they were used as diuretic and for constipation. But is was the berries that were proven to help with rheumatic gout.
Modern research shows strawberries have an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect in patients with osteoarthritis. The bio-activity in strawberries helps with metabolic syndrome - especially diabetes and high cholesterol.
Strawberries are native to Europe and the Americas. Today the US is the world leading producer of strawberries, primarily from California followed by Florida and Oregon.
